Who is Jesus?

This is a question that has been answered in many different ways by different people in different situations.

Some call Jesus a great prophet with fantastic words of wisdom about a better way to live.

Some look at Jesus as an example for us to follow. We need to be like Jesus!

Some look at Jesus as a sort of trouble maker. He is someone who divides people – separates people from each other causing conflict.

The best way to figure out who Jesus is, is to simply look at what God wants us to know about him from the Bible. When we take a look at the Bible as a whole – we see that Jesus is all these things already mentioned, and more.

The Bible tells us that the one true God created the world – and when he did, everything was perfect and holy, including humanity. “God don’t make no junk!” Humans communicated perfectly with God. There were no barriers between humans and God.

When humans fell into sin, humans separated themselves from God. In order for humans to continue to have a relationship with God the barriers would have to be torn down and the sins punished.

Back toward the beginning of time when humans first fell away from God, God the Father promised someone who would be holy in their place. Someone to take on the punishment that they deserve. This would be Jesus, God the Son – promised thousands of years before He actually came into the world. Back then, if people believed that Jesus was coming and that He would suffer and die for them, they could have a living, loving relationship with God.

When the time was right, about 2,000 years ago, Jesus, God the Son, did come into the world as a little baby. God and human at the same time. God – so He could be holy. Human – so He would take the place of humanity, so He could suffer and die. He did suffer, He did die, and then overcame death on Easter Sunday to demonstrate His power over death.

If we believe He did these things for us, we are able to have a living, loving relationship with God. Holes are poked through the barrier of sin. God communicates to us in the Bible – we are enabled to communicate with God in prayer. We are assured that when we die, the barriers will be gone completely, and we’ll spend an eternity with God in heaven, thanks to Jesus.

Who is Jesus? He’s a prophet, He’s an example for us to follow, He can even be divisive in that people look at Him in many different ways. But most important, He’s our savior. He brings us forgiveness of sins, bringing us together with God.
